In this workshop, high-performance coach and violinist Jennifer Roig-Francolí invites you to take a fresh, playful look at your relationship with the flute—how you meet it, how you hold it, and how the two of you actually work together, both physically and mentally. We’ll focus on the first moments of practice and how subtle habits of tension or over-managing can set the tone for everything that follows. With a few simple, practical shifts, you’ll explore how to begin each session with more ease, clarity, and intention. The goal is to create a calmer, more cooperative starting point every time you pick up the flute—so the relationship feels less effortful and more satisfying.

The Returner’s Reset is for players who played years ago, stopped, came back, and are now stuck in the loop. You know the one, open case, play badly, feel terrible, close case, repeat (…or give up).
By the end of these six weeks you will know exactly what to practise, why you’re practising it, and how to keep going when life gets in the way. You will have played with other people who understand exactly where you are. And the voice that says you’ve left it too late will be considerably quieter than it is right now.
Week 1: Where You Are We start with an honest look at where you actually are right now, not where you think you should be. No judgement, no pressure, just a real baseline to build from.
Week 2: Breathing We explore breath not as something to fix but as something to rediscover. Long tones, air support, and what actually happens when you stop fighting your own body.
Week 3: Tone & Sound This week is about your sound. We explore tone colour, dynamics, and what your instrument can do when you stop trying to control it.
Week 4: Rhythm We tackle the metronome, and everything you feel about it. This week reframes rhythm as something that steadies you rather than something that catches you out.
Week 5: Technique Scales, articulation, and finger work, but framed as play, not drill. Technique isn’t the enemy. It’s just been used against you for long enough.
Week 6: What’s Next We talk about what comes next. This week is about leaving with a plan, not just a certificate.

Do you love playing the flute but get nervous performing in front of other people?
This class is an opportunity to play a short piece or excerpt in front of a welcoming, supportive group of peers and make performing feel second nature!
Performer tickets are limited to 5 per class!
Performers: Please prepare any short piece or excerpt (5 minutes or less) to play for the group. While all genres are welcome, you may find you get the most out of classical repertoire of any time period (Baroque, contemporary, etc).

🚀 Elevate Your Performance: It’s your time to shine! Take centre stage and perform a short piece or excerpt (up to 5 minutes) in front of a group of supportive and welcoming peers. We’ll also cover various performance tricks and tips to help you refine your skills and boost your confidence.
🤝 Supportive Community: In this warm, welcoming, and supportive atmosphere, you’ll find camaraderie, encouragement, and a room full of people eager to cheer you on every step of the way. Whether you’re a seasoned performer or stepping onto the stage for the first time, we’re here to celebrate your journey.
💃 No Pressure Zone: I understand that performing can be daunting. That’s why participation is encouraged, but never mandatory. You’re welcome to attend as an enthusiastic member of the audience, soaking in the magic and supporting your fellow musicians.
🌟 Creating a Safe Space: My commitment to creating a safe, respectful atmosphere is very important. Participants are expected to contribute positively to this supportive environment. Those who do not show their fellow performers and flute friends the upmost respect may be barred from future classes.

These are informal flute choir play days. It is a friendly and supportive group and it encourages players from every level to join.
At the moment, we’re just goofing around with some fun, inclusive music. The music we play is dependant on the players who show up as we’ll try to be as accommodating as possible. Please drop me a line asap if there is any music in particular you’d like to try out with the group!
Players with access to piccolos, alto or bass flutes are super welcome!!
